Friend --

Today marks the 10 year anniversary since the last minimum wage increase. Politics aside, the facts are the facts: working people are falling behind -- and we're running out of time to close the gap.

Many Americans are working two and three jobs to provide for their families, but they don't get the basic protections they need to keep going.

We can't just complain about the 1% and Wall Street. We must also take action. That's why I proposed a 21st Century Workers' Bill of Rights yesterday. And that's why we're looking to people like you to take action on making it a reality.

Read my op-ed describing the 21st Century Workers' Bill of Rights now and let me know what you think about it. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Key policies in the 21st Century Workers' Bill of Rights include protections from unfair job terminations, paid sick and family leave, flexible scheduling, protection from employer interference, strengthening the Department of Labor's ability to investigate abusive employers, and restoring worker and union power.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, and again, and again:

This is supposed to be the party of the working people.

Make no mistake: progressive platforms that center on worker and union power have thrived here in New York City. We've led the way in the fight for a $15 minimum wage and enacted paid sick leave so that New Yorkers don't have to worry about losing their livelihoods if they go to the hospital. We've already had fair scheduling on the books for two years.

This is what we can do for the whole nation.

Get the details on the 21st Century Workers' Bill of Rights here, and leave a comment to let me know what you think.

We can't wait another ten years for a proposal that doesn't even begin to address the bigger problems working people face. Together, let's make sure working people have a seat at the table again.

Together we can,

Bill
