[1]Mandela Barnes for Wisconsin

I'm reaching out today to see if you can make a contribution before I take the stage tonight at the first debate of the Wisconsin Senate primary.

Here's the truth:

The reason why our campaign is in the best position to defeat Ron Johnson is because we are building a movement unlike anyone else in this primary.

So far, more than 70,000 people have made over 150,000 contributions. That's incredible and has made all the difference for our campaign.

When I got into this race, I made the commitment to reject all corporate PAC money. It was a decision I made because I wanted this campaign to be funded the right way — by real people, not by special interests.

But right now we are up against two primary opponents who are using millions of dollars of their own personal wealth to fund their campaigns. I don't have the ability to self-fund, which is why we're doing things differently.

So today — before the debate later tonight — I'd like to send a powerful message about the grassroots strength of this campaign. Because at the end of the day, that's how we're going to defeat Ron Johnson.

Can you make a contribution before I take the debate stage tonight? This is a big moment for our campaign, and it'd mean a lot if you could chip in.

At the debate tonight, I plan to talk about our shared vision to rebuild the middle class and make sure everyone has a fair shot. I'll talk about the need to take on powerful corporate interests and level the playing field for working families. And I'll discuss the priorities I will fight for in the Senate — from protecting abortion rights to passing common sense gun violence prevention legislation.

My mom was a Milwaukee school teacher and my dad worked 3rd shift at the General Motors plant. Sadly, those kinds of middle class jobs are currently in short supply in our state and across the country. It's past time to change that.

This campaign isn’t about left or right, or red versus blue. It’s about who’s been at the top and who’s been left at the bottom. And the good news is that there are more of us than there are of them.

We are powerful when we stand together, and we will always have more in common with one another than we do with out-of-touch millionaire politicians like Ron Johnson.

I may not have millions of dollars of personal wealth to pour into this campaign. But I've got something more important, and that is people like you who are ready to flip this Senate seat in November.

So I'm asking you directly:

Can you please make a contribution to show we're the best campaign to defeat Ron Johnson? Every contribution makes a big difference.

Thank you in advance for chipping in before tonight's debate. I know I can always count on people like you to come through when it matters most.

All my best,

Mandela
