Weekly Newsletter from the Office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino If you were forwarded this email, click here to subscribe An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino SPOTLIGHT House Passed Annual Defense Funding Package, Including Several Provisions Sponsored and Supported by Andrew This week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7900, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 (NDAA). This year’s NDAA authorizes $850 billion for national defense. Included in the House NDAA were six provisions introduced by Andrew and seven provisions of which he was a proud cosponsor. In a statement he said, “I am pleased to announce that the NDAA has passed the House, including several of my amendments which I firmly believe will strengthen our national security and help keep Americans safe. Building up our cyber preparedness, combatting the fentanyl crisis at our southern border, and ensuring our veterans are taken care of are top priorities for me and critical to our national interests.” Learn more about Andrew's provisions included in the funding package here. ANDREW IN THE NEWS President Biden must seize opportunity to address border crisis with Mexican president By Rep. Andrew Garbarino " President Biden is set to meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and one topic should undoubtedly be on the agenda — the unrelenting influx of migrants crossing from Mexico into the United States across our southern border...The American people are rightly concerned about the threat to national security, public safety, and public health brought on by President Biden’s open border policies. He has a chance to address these concerns with López Obrador and push the Mexican president to take action to stop undocumented migrants within his own borders, and before they reach ours. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Helps Clean Up Brentwood VFW Andrew recently attended a Clean-Up Day at the Brentwood VFW and joined with members of the community who come out to help and ensure our veterans have a safe, clean meeting place they can be proud of. VFWs and other VSOs offer indispensable services to our veterans which is why Andrew introduced the VSO Support Act, to create a grant program to help VSOs stay open and fully operational for Long Island’s veteran community. The VSO Support Act passed the House this week as part of the NDAA funding package. Andrew Attends Veteran Appreciation Breakfast and Resource Fair Yesterday, Andrew attend Assemblyman Mike Durso’s Veterans Appreciation Pancake Breakfast and Resource Fair at American Legion Post 1066. He was honored to spend the morning with true American heroes and to thank them for their selfless service to our country. Andrew Support 9/11 Responders Andrew took part in a block party this week at Belfast Gastro pub in support of Tunnel to Towers, an incredible foundation that provides support to 9/11 respondors and their families to honor the sacrifice of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. Andrew shares their mission which is why he is leading the charge to ensure 9/11 responders and survivors always have access to the health care they deserve. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Bill To Help Burn Pit Victims Passes the House With Andrew's Support Andrew was proud to vote in favor of the Honoring Our PACT Act this week. This legislation would unlock benefits for 3.5 million toxic exposed veterans. Additionally, the legislation requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) publish a list of the benefits and healthcare resources available to veterans and survivors related to toxic exposures. Andrew will always honor the brave men and women who have courageously served our nation, and is fully devoted to fighting on their behalf in Congress. Andrew Cosponsors Bill To Stand With Israel This week Andrew helped introduce a Concurrent Resolution, alongside Rep. Lee Zeldin and 20 other Members of Congress, expressing opposition to President Biden’s proposal to open a U.S. consulate in Jerusalem for separate diplomatic outreach to the Palestinians. The introduction of this resolution came ahead of President Biden's trip to East Jerusalem after rejecting a request from Israeli government officials to join him on the visit, and amid reports that the Biden Administration will continue its efforts to reopen the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem. Andrew stands firmly behind the people of Israel, one of our greatest allies, and recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s unequivocal capital. Thanks for reading!
