John,
Look, words matter. As public servants what we say and how we say it matters.
In the past few weeks, we have seen our community and the State of Maine rally together to help welcome our newest neighbors currently housed in the Expo. In particular, City Staff have worked overtime to identify viable housing solutions moving forward.
Our number one focus as a community must be to find our newest neighbors housing. The alternative is an uncertain future and homelessness.
Confusion caused by mixed messages that contradict city staff is no way to prevent the unthinkable.
This is not a political issue we should be using for political gain and fundraising. This moment calls for a steady hand, careful statements and collaboration.
I thank the Governor, my colleagues on the Council, City Staff, and members of the community for their steadfast focus on this issue. Together, we can rise to the occasion to meet the needs of our newest neighbors.
Sincerely,
Spencer
