On my first day in office, I signed an executive order putting California on the path to creating our own prescription drugs.
Now it’s happening.
California is going to make our own insulin.
The budget I just signed sets aside $100 million to get it done. Half of the money will go toward developing low-cost insulin products, and the other half will go toward a California-based manufacturing facility that will also provide high-paying jobs and a strong supply chain for the drug.
With this act, we are going to use our market power, and our moral power, to get a better deal for Californians who need this lifesaving drug.
Instead of leaving our people to take on price-gouging drug companies alone, Californians are going to take them on together.
This act now means California is the ONLY state in the country that offers universal access to health care coverage AND the only state to produce our own insulin, making it cheaper and more affordable for everyone.
California has always helped to write America’s future.
