It's been a busy week in Washington D.C. - here are the highlights:

  • Voting against House Democrats’ radical abortion bills.

  • Inflation continues to skyrocket as the Consumer Price Index hit 9.1% in June.

  • President Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia.

I value hearing from Kansans. If you’d like to share your comments or concerns with me, please click here:

Voting Against Radical Abortion Legislation
Last month, we witnessed a monumental win for life. The overturning of Roe v. Wade rectified a wrong of 50 years that has plagued our country and resulted in the death of millions. This ruling is an opportunity for America to transition to a society that embraces the inherent value of unborn life rather than casting it aside. Sadly, Washington Democrats have opted to ignore this opportunity and instead have pushed legislation like H.R. 8296, which would remove all state restrictions on abortions and allow abortion to occur at any stage of the pregnancy until birth.

This legislation goes far beyond Roe v. Wade and is fundamentally out of line with the views of the American people.

I stood firmly for the right to life and voted against H.R. 8297, the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act of 2022, and H.R. 8296, the Abortion on Demand Act.

I believe every child has value, both in and outside of the womb, and I will always fight to protect the right to life for all Americans.
Letter urging President Biden to waive Fertilizer Imports
From fertilizer to fuel to equipment to fencing, inflation is crushing producers across this country. Fertilizer alone is up 220%. This week, I led 27 of my Congressional colleagues on a letter to President Biden urging him to waive import duties on fertilizer imports from Morocco, Trinidad and Tobago.
Skyrocketing fertilizer cost is a major problem, and it’s forcing farmers to decide on planting not on market fundamentals, but on the cost of fertilizer.
Especially in times of emergency, we need to provide flexibility and ensure input costs don’t deter American producers. My colleagues and I are urging the President to take action immediately to alleviate this strain on our American producers.
Legislation I Support
  • H. Res. 1228, Expressing support for the Supreme Court's decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.

  • H.R. 8263, the Protecting Life on Federal Lands Act.

  • H.R. 8235, the Housing Supply Expansion Act.

  • H.R. 8171, the Protect Minors from Medical Malpractice Act of 2022.

Advocating for the Right to Life

It’s easy to get caught up in legislative language and forget that the numbers involved in the abortion issue are actual human beings. In The United States, 63.4 million people – Americans – have died from abortion in the past 50 years. To put that number in context, that’s roughly the entire population of the Midwest, which is estimated at 65 million people. Think about that. That’s the impact that abortion has had over the past 50 years.

I want to take a moment to thank the pro-life movement at large in America. I am standing with you and thanking God that Roe v. Wade has finally been overturned. Now, we have a lot of work to do together. Our country still needs to wake up, repent to God collectively as a nation for the 63.4 million innocent lives that were lost to abortion on our watch, and finally change course on this evil practice.

Fall Internship Applications Are Open!
I'm excited to offer internships to college-age students this fall in my Manhattan, Dodge City, and Washington D.C. offices. My first job on Capitol Hill was as an intern, and it's my privilege to offer the same experience to students today. Working in a congressional office is a unique opportunity for students to learn about the impacts of public policy, the role congressional offices play in helping constituents on a daily basis, and the importance of our elected bodies.

The deadline to submit applications for the Fall 2022 semester is Friday, August 8, 2022. Applications are reviewed on a first-come basis.

Questions? Contact my Washington D.C. office at 202-22-2715.
