On August 14, 2022, we will celebrate the 87th anniversary of Social Security.
As we reflect on this historic legislation, let’s remember Franklin D. Roosevelt’s words to Congress in June of 1934:
“The security of the home, the security of livelihood, and the security of social insurance are, it seems to me, a minimum of the promise that we can offer to the American people. They constitute a right which belongs to every individual and every family willing to work.” |
Ever since the Social Security Act became law, our government has worked to expand the benefits offered by this critical program because the majority of Americans overwhelmingly believe that we must look after and protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
In addition to the barrage of attacks on our fundamental rights to reproductive care, safety from gun violence, and a liveable planet, Republicans are also working behind closed doors to take away this social-safety net that so many Americans rely on.
Let me make one thing clear: We cannot allow the GOP to rob working families from the benefits they have worked all their life to earn.
As we approach yet another anniversary of Social Security, I want to remind you that I’m completely committed to this fight, but I need your support.
In honor of Social Security, my team and I have set a goal to raise $8,700 by next month! Can you donate $8.70 to my re-election campaign to help us meet our goal and ensure that you have a Social Security champion in Congress?
If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be processed immediately. |
The GOP’s agenda to take away Social Security benefits is nothing short of a ploy to gain the support of special interests and line the pockets of their dark-money donors. They have forgotten their duty to serve the American people.
We must work to protect and expand Social Security, not dismantle it. We cannot allow their corrupt right-wing agenda to succeed. Please, rush a donation of $8.70 to my campaign today — every dollar makes a difference in the fight for the expansion of Social Security.
Thank you for all you do,
John
