GLAAD releases second annual Social Media Safety Index
This week, GLAAD released its 2022 Social Media Safety Index (SMSI). As a follow-up to the pioneering 2021 SMSI, the 2022 edition introduces a Platform Scorecard GLAAD developed in partnership with Ranking Digital Rights and Goodwin Simon Strategic Research. After reviewing all five major social media platforms for measures like explicit protections from hate and harassment for LGBTQ users, gender pronoun options on profiles, and prohibiting advertising that could be harmful and/or discriminatory to LGBTQ people, not a single platform scored over 50 - out of a possible 100. GLAAD releases the latest Accelerating Acceptance Report
This month, GLAAD released the 2022 edition of the Accelerating Acceptance Report measuring Americans’ attitudes and comfortability towards LGBTQ Americans. Every year, this critical measure helps GLAAD track progress towards 100% LGBTQ acceptance. While the report reveals troubling data around discrimination and safety, it also offers reasons for hope, when it comes to visibility and representation. Please view the full report here.

President Biden responds to call to secure release of WNBA’s Brittney Griner from Russia
President Biden has announced plans to secure Brittney Griner's release from Russia. This comes on heels of over 40 organizations, including GLAAD, signing a letter urging President Biden to strike a deal for Griner's release. GLAAD President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, responds to anti-trans rhetoric from celebrities and the media
GLAAD's President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, made a statement on Twitter responding to celebrities and the media spreading anti-trans rhetoric. This followed a transphobic comment by actress and singer, Bette Midler, who has been a consistent supporter of the LGBTQ community in the past.
