Dear John,

I wanted to take a moment to relay some big victories that we’ve been able to win on your behalf this year in the area of property taxes. As you well know (you probably already have the statements), Texas has some of the highest property taxes in the country. And somehow, school districts keep demanding more and more money without showing that they can use these funds to improve education. Our policy experts helped craft two significant pieces of legislation that were passed in this year’s Session, and both will put more money in your pocket.

First, we fought for—and won—$5 billion in property tax relief. Not just “slowing growth”, relief. You and your fellow Texans will pay $5 billion less.

However, that’s not going to stop school districts and other local taxing entities from trying to win back that revenue. But, the revenue limits that our team crafted—and were able to pass—will. School district revenue will be limited in growth each year and if local governments want more, they have to ask you. This “limit“ was at 8% for years, until now, when we were able to reduce it to 2.5%.

Finally, we helped create legislation that doesn’t allow cities to annex your land and start taxing you without your consent. This finished the job we started in 2017, and completely abolished this practice throughout the state.

I know that you will feel the impact of these in the coming years, and I’m grateful for your support this year. If you’d like to make a tax-deductible year-end gift to TPPF, we’d be very honored.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or if we can do anything for you.

Sincerely,

Kevin Roberts, Ph. D
