Team,
As part of this email list you’re on, I wrote you a while back about my favorite collection – Chia Pets (see below for a refresher in case you’ve somehow forgotten). One email, back on March 23rd.
Since then, I’ve had people approach me at campaign events exclusively to talk about the Chia Pets. I’ve been regaled by people singing the 1980’s Chia Pet commercial (cha-cha-cha-Chia!). And, on top of that, last month a supporter bought me a gift of a new Chia Pet – a Bart Simpson one, to boot – to add to my collection.

It’s a silly story, but it illustrates a broader point: we actually write our emails! I’ve always tried to have an email program that allows me to connect with people, rather than just bombard you with over-the-top rhetoric to make a quick buck. Something that I can use to update folks on my campaign, my work back in D.C., and the occasional fun anecdote from my normal life.
I’m glad that’s something we’ve been able to achieve together – Chia Pets and all!

Team,
Today is a special day for me, and I wanted to make sure you all were included. No, not end-of-quarter (we’ll get to that in a minute)… it’s National Chia Day. While I’m sure the seed industry had something else in mind, I’m taking it as National Chia PET day.

S omething you may not know about me is that I have a rather extensive Chia Pet collection. As a child of the 80’s, I was given one at one point, and over the years have seemed to accumulate them. I sometimes refer to them as “my other pets” (please don’t tell Rocky and Boomer).
They’re a great, low-stress plant for someone like me with a crazy schedule, and they’re my favorite centerpieces when guests come to visit. I have a dog, a cat, a George Washington bust, and the strangest two (since they have no fur!) are a hippo and a frog.
I don’t really have much more to say other than in honor of spring, they make a lovely 80’s themed display in the yard. So, if you have Chia pets, or just a fondness for those commercials, as we approach our first end-of-quarter deadline of the year, I’m asking if you will chip in $5, $10, or $15 to help us grow our campaign and compete in the most competitive House race in Michigan.
