Last May Saule Omarova, Joe Biden’s pick to regulate the banking industry through the OCC, said the quiet part out loud! She declared “the way we basically get rid of those carbon finiciers is we starve them out of their sources of capital.”

This statement wasn’t merely hypothetical, but rather a practical strategy that the left is employing. An alliance of “green activists, big business, and woke culture warriors” has formed to pursue ESG (environmental, social, and governance), a social movement designed at leveraging investments to force companies into woke business practices. 

ESG Hurts - Here's How

ESG employs a scoring system that rates companies based on woke policy preferences like being anti-oil or supporting critical race theory.  The more a company virtue signals, the “better” their ESG score.

But why does the score matter? Because big business is part of this alliance. Massive asset managers like Blackrock and Vanguard have bought about 20% of shares in every S&P 500 company and they are making investment decisions based on ESG scores. 

ESG is a big government and big business attempt at social conditioning that will manipulate business into making misguided economic decisions whose effect will be most felt by the little guy.

ESG hurts us all—because we are the ones who pay the price.

It hurts our wallets when companies raise their prices to comply with the costly red-tape regulations of ESG. 

It hurts when our paychecks don’t go as far, because of high gas prices and inflation.

And it hurts our society when companies engage in woke politics that divide America.

Title IX

50 years ago Title IX was passed into law, requiring federal dollars to be spent equally on male and female athletics in K-12 schools and universities.

Now, Biden and the Department of Education, are reinterpreting language in Title IX to redefine the meaning of “sex” to include “gender identity.” 

Biden is forcing schools and universities to allow biological men to compete in Women’s sports. His intention is for this “woke” ideology to spread from the field and into classrooms and textbooks.

Legislative Update

Democrats’ Abortion-for-All Agenda

This week the House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022 (H.R. 8296) and Ensuring Access to Abortion Act of 2022 (H.R. 8297). This is the second time the House has tried to push radical abortion policy into law. 

Between the two bills, they would remove any and all restrictions on abortion; allow for the use of dangerous chemical abortion pills and legalize abortion up until the day of birth. Make no mistake, THIS is radical! That’s why we key voted the Women’s Health Protection Act. Learn more about Heritage Action’s previous key vote. 

Before going to the President’s desk, these bills would need to overcome the filibuster and receive 60 votes in the Senate. Because of this, many Democrats have called for abolishing the filibuster so they can pass these radical bills to legalize gruesome late-term abortions in all 50 states.

National Defense Authorization Act

The House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) (H.R. 7900). This legislation provides the annual budget for defense operations. While the “draft our daughters” provision, which would require women register for the draft, was not included in the bill and should be seen as a small victory, there is a proposed amendment and could be added on the House floor.

The current system of U.S. conscription serves no useful military purpose. This effort is really about destructive identity politics. Read more from Heritage’s Jim Carafano.

Build Back Broke – Inflationary Spending!

While it is appearing unlikely that Democrats will be able to resurrect the Build Back Better Act, Sen. Manchin (D-W.Va.) has returned to the negotiating table, and conservatives must remain vigilant. If passed, this Left-wing spending wish list would raise taxes right before an election and spend over a trillion dollars to further fuel record-setting inflation. You should continue to urge their senators to oppose this bill.
