Hi John,

As a supporter of Global Justice Now, you are part of a global movement of campaigners, health workers, union members, scientists and more who are fighting to stop pharmaceutical corporations monopolising medicines.

When the likes of the CEO of the big drugs company, Pfizer, say that sharing its Covid-19 vaccine with the world is “dangerous nonsense”, we push back. Together we are fighting for people’s health and lives to come before corporate profits.

I’m writing to you today to ask if you can donate £5 to boost our campaigning against the big pharma monopoly model?
Yes, I'll donate
It’s disgusting that Pfizer has made $22 billion in profits while keeping its Covid-19 vaccine recipe to itself, rather than sharing it so more could be made, and more cheaply. Corporate greed like this has a huge impact on people’s lives – sadly four times as many people have died from Covid-19 in the global south as in rich countries.

The pandemic has exposed just how much our health system is failing everyone except pharmaceutical companies. It’s vital we build on this exposure to turn the tide on monopolies and create serious change.

Pharmaceutical monopolies are deepening inequality.

While nearly everyone here in the UK has been offered multiple vaccine doses, in low-income countries it is still fewer than 20% who have had a single one. This inequality is so stark it’s been labelled vaccine apartheid. Yet, for almost 20 months, our government has been one of the main blockers of World Trade Organisation reforms to medicine monopolies which could have saved countless lives.

Next month, world leaders will come together to start discussing an international agreement on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. Big pharma is gearing up to lobby for their profits to be prioritised over public health once more.

It’s vital that together we hold our government and decision makers to account. Can you donate today to help send a strong message that we won’t stand for them backing big business?
Donate
It’s not just Covid-19 vaccines and treatments we need change for. Year on year, 100 million people are pushed below the poverty line because of the prices big pharma companies charge for vital medicines. This has to stop, and with your help we can make change.

Together we can create change

While there is more scrutiny on big pharma than ever before, we have a chance to fight for big changes to the pharmaceutical system. Some countries are taking matters into their own hands. For example, a South African vaccine hub has unlocked the ground-breaking mRNA technology and is replicating it so it can be shared.

Here in the UK we can play our part, and with a donation today you can make sure we do. A donation from you could help us publish research into sustainable alternatives that put people before corporate profits – helping us convince decision makers.

Throughout the pandemic we’ve had huge success in exposing big pharma’s profiteering in the media, and with your support we won’t stop now. A donation from you could help us equip our local groups with innovative materials so they can have key conversations with the public and get more people behind the campaign. With your support we will also be able to work with our allies from across civil society to build an even bigger movement that will have a greater impact.

I hope I can count on your support.

Best wishes
Tim Bierley

P.S. It’s vital that people’s lives are put before the profits of big pharma. Please donate to give our movement the boost we need to change the monopolisation of medicines by big business.
