Hello, Friends —

This week in Congress, the Democrats continued their horrifying anti-life push by passing two abortion bills: H.R. 8296, the Women's Health Protection Act of 2022 and H.R. 8297, the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. By passing both of these bills, which I vehemently opposed, Democrats in the House have indicated that they are more committed to preventing life in this country than fixing its economic trials and tribulations.

Aside from this, I worked to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will provide essential funding for our troops across the country, including Florida's First District. Below is a summary of more events from this busy week in Washington, D.C.

GAETZ TO BIDEN: DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE SAUDI ATTACK AT NAS PENSACOLA

Saudi Arabia has been involved in two terrorist attacks on our soil: 9/11 and at NAS Pensacola where three American service members were killed.

On Dec. 6, 2019, a Saudi flight student opened fire at NAS Pensacola, killing three sailors and injuring others in our military and law enforcement. This terrorist was supposed to have been properly vetted by the Saudis. He wasn’t. The Saudis were supposed to have engaged in rigorous oversight and monitoring of their students. They didn’t. Immediately after the attack, the Saudis promised me they’d pay financially for the ruin their servicemember caused. They haven’t – and are now fighting against our survivors in federal court.

Now, Joe Biden is so intent on killing American energy that he is financially helping the very people I think are responsible for killing Americans.

Mr. President, don’t forget about the attack on NAS Pensacola during your visit to Saudi Arabia. The entire country is counting on you to hold the Kingdom accountable, including Ensign Joshua Kaleb Watson, Airman Apprentice Cameron Walters, and Airman Mohammed Haitham.

Last night, I discussed the misaligned decision of Joe Biden to kowtow to Saudi Arabia for 'economic assistance' instead of standing up for our lost heroes who were murdered by a Saudi Arabia-connected terrorist.

NDAA FY23 PASSES IN THE HOUSE, HEADS TO THE SENATE

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), I applaud the passage the FY2023 NDAA in the U.S. House of Representatives this week. There are numerous provisions for Florida’s First Congressional District in the NDAA, including $525 million going directly to Northwest Florida’s military mission.

Our military must be one of the top, central focuses of the work we do in Congress. As the world becomes an increasingly dangerous place, we have to protect our country and hold the high ground. Today I voted in favor of the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The legislation must still shed some poison pills in coming negotiations with the Senate, after which it will be far more valuable to our beloved America.

CONGRESSMAN GAETZ STANDS STRONG FOR LIFE IN JUDICIARY MARK-UP

On July 13th, the Judiciary Committee met to mark up several bills, including H.R. 6878, a bill which would provide pregnant inmates with conditions amendable to their unborn children. As a supporter of the bill, I was alarmed to hear Congresswoman Deborah Ross describe the bill as “great for reproductive freedom,” for the phrase “reproductive freedom” is so often utilized by proponents of abortion in our country. To my relief, Congresswoman Ross clarified that the bill was not one which sponsored abortion in any way.

Immediately afterwards, I followed up with Congresswoman Ross to ask how she interpreted the term “unborn child” in relation to the bill. Rather than answering my question, Congresswoman Ross attempted to defer to Congresswoman Karen Bass, the sponsor of the bill; Congresswoman Bass then egregiously accused me of seeking “theater” rather than the response to my question which Congresswoman Ross refused to provide.

As a steadfast pro-life conservative, I sought to ensure that the bill, which I intended to support included no hidden provisions of state-sponsored abortions and received only avoidance of my questions and unfounded accusations. Much to the dismay of my pro-abortion colleagues, I am an ardent defender of unborn life, and I will continue to work to ensure that legislation which endorses abortion is not snuck unnoticed into seemingly innocent bills.

GAETZ: DEMS WANT TO USE ACTIVE SHOOTER ALERTS TO SCARE AMERICANS

On July 13, I debated on the House floor the Democrat sponsored H.R. 6538, the Active Shooter Alert Act of 2022. This bill would give the government power to bombard your cell phones with active shooter alerts 24/7. This bill is useless and foolish for a couple of reasons.

First, there are no distance requirements which means that when you get an active shooter alert on your phone, the shooting could be across the street, one mile away, or ten miles away. Second, by the time the alerts are sent out to phones, it might already be too late. Working on police response times is of course a worthy goal, but alerting thousands of people to what may or may not have happened 30 minutes ago or 30 blocks way is very dangerous. This bill is like yelling 'fire' in a movie theater, except the fire is in another movie theater across the street!

I believe the Democrats primary motivation for introducing this bill is to instill fear of the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership into the American people. The American people should not fall for this, nor will I.

FIREBRAND: LIVE FROM DC THIS WEEK

Image

Episode 60: No Vax, No Service (feat. MSgt. Nick Kupper)

On this episode of Firebrand, Congressman Gaetz is joined by American hero and patriot, MSgt. Nick Kupper, where they discuss the effect the military vaccine mandate is having on military families and the military in general. They also discuss some recent court decisions that have provided some relief, notably for Air Force military personnel whose religious exemptions from vaccinations were not fairly evaluated.

Episode 59The Will To Fight

Congressman Matt Gaetz reacts to new footage emerging from Uvalde that reveals just how bad the law enforcement response to the shooting was, lambasts Democrats for their increasingly insane anti-gun legislation proposals, explains how Joe Biden's military prioritizes woke pedagogy instead of assessing the will to fight, and more!

Episode 58Who Is In Control? (feat. Rep. Anthony Sabatini)

Congressman Matt Gaetz is joined once again by Florida State House Representative Anthony Sabatini to discuss what is underlying the feud between Gavin Newsom and Ron DeSantis, and what the future holds for California and Florida if migration between the two states continues. Moreover, they discussed how the Left is weaponizing the DOJ to dismantle Arizona's election integrity measures and how the global elites are being proven wrong on economic sanctions against Russia.

HOUSE PASSES BILL THAT INCREASES CARE FOR VETERANS EXPOSED TO TOXINS

For too long, our veterans have been denied proper care for toxic exposures because of toxic Washington policy. The brave men and women of the US military were exposed to burn pits used in the disposal of waste in the Middle East.

The toxic chemicals that emanate from this process cause grave damage to human health. Toxic burn pits are this generation’s Agent Orange. Military veterans dedicate their lives to serving America, often at the expense of their health.

Providing veterans with the compensation and help they need to heal from toxic exposure is why I voted yes for honoring dangerous and selfless military service, leading to the passage of the House amendment to S. 3373.

Mr. President, don't forget about Saudi Arabia's attack on NAS Pensacola | Rep. Matt Gaetz

"Lost on the President is that energy drawn from the Arabian Desert is dirtier for our environment – and bloodier politically – than energy from America’s heartland. Domestic climate politics means we cap wells here, while we bend and bow to the Ferrari Bedouins abroad."
