July 15, 2022
Greetings,
We hope you had a great week. For all those who celebrated Eid al-Adha last weekend, Eid Mubarak! In Washington, Congressman Kim had a busy week voting for legislation that puts our servicemembers, veterans, and our community first. As always, we hope you find the following updates and resources helpful.
National Defense Authorization Act
On Wednesday, July 13th, Congressman Kim joined fellow National Security Task Force Co-Chairs to speak on this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Congressman Kim emphasized his focus on the needs of our servicemembers and civilian DoD employees. Watch his full remarks here.
On Thursday, July 14th, Congressman Kim voted to pass the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2023 through the House of Representatives. Congressman Kim worked to ensure America is investing in the people who keep us safe while also securing historic investments in technology and innovation that will help keep jobs in New Jersey. This bill will prepare our country for the unprecedented challenges ahead and honor the sacrifices our servicemembers and their families make through a much needed pay raise.
Some of Congressman Kim’s priorities that were included in the bill are:
- Congressman Kim’s Dental Care for Our Troops Act which would ensure all National Guard and reservists have access to no-fee dental care like active-duty servicemembers do, even when they are not on active status.
- Congressman Kim’s Put Our Neighbors to Work Act to put local workers first for construction jobs on military bases.
- An increase in the maximum monthly subsidy through DoD’s Child Care Fee Assistance Program, which helps military families afford civilian childcare if they are placed on a waitlist for on-base care. Access to childcare for military families has been one of the highest priorities identified by Joint Base McQuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Congressman Kim Speaks at House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee Hearing
On July 13th, Congressman Kim spoke at a subcommittee hearing on the FY23 Budget Request for the United Nations and International Organizations. The Congressman spoke with Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, Michele Sison, about ensuring the United States’ continued partnership with the U.N. and other international organizations to respond to the growing global food crisis.

Congressman Kim Votes to Pass the Honoring Our PACT Act to Support Veterans Health
On July 13th, Congressman Kim helped pass the SFC Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act and send it to the Senate, where it’s expected to pass into law. The bill will help millions of veterans impacted by toxic exposure and hypertension, delivering the quality healthcare and benefits they have earned.
Congressman Kim Votes to Pass Bills to Protect Women’s Healthcare Rights in Wake of Supreme Court Decision
On Friday July 15th, Congressman Kim voted to pass the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act and the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect women’s healthcare rights in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Roe v. Wade decision, erasing 50-years of precedent on reproductive freedom.
“The Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe left millions of Americans scared and outraged. In the days after the news broke, I was proud to stand with my neighbors to speak-out against this injustice. Now I’m trying to do everything I can to protect women’s rights in this country,” said Congressman Kim. “These two bills are a good start but we can’t stop here. We need to make sure that women are treated fairly and equally. That means equal pay for equal work, not having to worry about walking alone at night, the freedom to marry who you love, the right to collectively bargain, and the right to raise a family in this country safely. I’m glad we’re taking these steps and look forward to continuing this work for equality and fairness.”
