I just walked off the House floor after voting to pass legislation to protect abortion access and codify Roe v. Wade as the law of the land.

It’s an important bill that unfortunately will never see the light of day in the Senate. We simply don’t have enough democratic votes.

Over the past few weeks Republicans have introduced legislation to criminalize abortion nationwide, including here in California.

All this while we start to hear tragic stories from around the country of women being turned away from clinics. Even a 10 year old girl.

I recognize that this vote won’t solve the crisis we have in front of us. And yet, I’m emailing you to tell you we can’t give up.

If Kevin McCarthy becomes Speaker this November, he will pass a bill to make abortion illegal nationwide - including here in California - and put women and doctors in jail for these life-saving procedures. This is how bad it could get if we don’t fight to codify Roe.
