Last night, Joe Manchin said he wouldn’t support any new federal climate spending. John, my heart is shattered in a million pieces.
This moment feels like nothing short of a death sentence for our generation. And it’s all because one man who profits from the fossil fuel industry has the power to defy the 81 million Americans who voted for Democrats to stop the climate crisis. Again and again, our leaders look at young people and willingly pass on to us a violent and cruel world.
I'm heartbroken, but I will not give up. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. That's a promise.
Take a moment to grieve and process this moment and when you’re ready, we have an action you can take. Join us in calling on Biden to use his executive power to save us from climate devastation. Our demands are: [[link removed]]
*Declare a Climate Emergency,
*End the practice of leasing public lands and waters for fossil fuel production,
*Stop the issue of permits for any new fossil fuel infrastructure, including pipelines, petrochemical plants, and export terminals, especially Line 3, Line 5, and the Mountain Valley Pipeline,
*Update and strengthen outdated standards limiting particulate matter, ozone, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, mercury, coal ash, and tailpipe emissions, as well as lead and copper rules preventing contamination of drinking water,
*Finalize new methane standards for new and existing oil and gas operations, and by making these standards strong enough to cut methane pollution at least 65 percent below 2012 levels by 2025, and
*Direct the EPA to designate greenhouse pollutants as criteria air pollutants and set a science-based national pollution cap under the Clean Air Act.

Corporate obstructionists are dead set on letting our world burn. And the broken Senate and Supreme Court are letting them. Biden, we’re looking at you.
Biden can't forget that young people motivated by his climate promises are a critical piece of what got him into office. Now, 94% of people under 30 don’t want Biden to run again. The failure to deliver is an existential threat to our democracy, party, and planet. Our politicians should see it that way.
Here’s where I’m finding hope and direction for our movement’s next steps - President Biden can still take strides to avert the worst of the climate crisis, but only if he continues to use his executive authority to do everything to justly transition to 100% renewable energy by 2030.
But, we need your help to make our demands so loud and clear that he can’t ignore us. Add your name to our petition calling on Biden to use his executive authority to do everything to address the climate crisis. [[link removed]]

To all of you who give so much to save our future - I see you. You have shown immense courage and waged love. And, you should know that there is no failure in your striving. Please remember that the world has changed in wondrous ways through your actions - even if you can't always see it.
In solidarity,
Varshini, Sunrise
