Queering the vote? Rainbow wave? Doesn't matter what you call it, but folks are starting to pay attention to the momentum LGBTQ candidates are garnering this year. Read the recent Buzzfeed article about these candidates and why their elections matter more than ever!

2. Dana Nessel on Data Privacy in a Post-Roe World


 

Even though abortion is still legal in Michigan, Attorney General (and Game Changer candidate) Dana Nessel spoke out this week about protecting personal data in a post-Roe world. While the legislature begins to codify abortion rights, Dana is raising the alarm that citizens should start protecting their data while using fertility and period tracking apps.

3. Patrick Branco Drops New Campaign Ad!


 

Game Changer candidate Patrick Branco, who is running for Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District, released a new ad this week about his plan to address the ongoing pandemic, increase equitable access to affordable housing and common sense gun reform. If elected, he will be the first out LGBTQ Member of Congress from Hawaii!

4. Maura Healey Hits the (Podcast) Airwaves

This week, Game Changer candidate Maura Healey was a guest on the New York Times Sway podcast. She discussed the importance of enforcing anti-discrimination laws in light of "Don't Say Gay" bills and other anti-LGBTQ legislation, the future of marriage equality and her opposition to right-wing extremism. 5. Spotlight Candidate Speaks Out Against Trans Sports Ban

A school district in Pennsylvania voted this week to ban trans students from joining sports teams that align with their gender identity. This is the first trans sports ban adopted by a school board in the state. Spotlight candidate Izzy Smith-Wade-El - who is President of the Lancaster City Council - quickly condemned the move. Izzy is running for the state house and will be the first out LGBTQ person to ever represent Lancaster in the state legislature.

ICYMI: Last week, Victory Institute released a report "Few & Under Fire: LGBTQ School Board Members in the U.S." about LGBTQ representation on school boards and the impact they have.

6. Out on the Trail: Victory Fund in Charlotte This Week

This week, some of our Victory Fund staff joined Spotlight Candidate LaWana Mayfield in Charlotte! Senior Director of Outreach and Engagement Marty Rouse and Political Associate Candace Silver traveled down to North Carolina to support LaWana. We provided on the ground support, canvassed and helped set up a press conference with the mayor to rally voters ahead of the July 26 election! Learn more about LaWana's campaign here
