The ultra-conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court has already shown its willingness to turn over the fate of basic constitutional rights to the whims of gerrymandered state legislatures. Next year, they could go even further in a case called Moore v. Harper.
If you’re already familiar with Moore v. Harper, I’ll cut right to the chase -- our affiliate, the National Redistricting Foundation, is supporting the right side in this case as it heads to the Supreme Court, and we need supporters like you to help us keep up the fight, both inside and outside of courtrooms.

Moore v. Harper is the latest Republican power grab, and it may be their biggest yet. If they’re successful, it could be a disaster for our democracy. The case threatens our systems of checks and balances, and if the Republicans get what they want from the Court, Moore v. Harper would give state legislatures, many of which are gerrymandered and don’t accurately reflect voters, near-total power over how federal elections are conducted. The basis for this case is the truly fringe and dangerous "independent state legislature" theory.
That means the days of judicial reviews and governors vetoing gerrymandered maps could be gone, in direct contravention of nearly a century of Supreme Court precedent.
It could also mean the end of voting protections as we know them since state courts have been one of the last defenses against voter suppression laws passed by Republican-controlled state legislatures.
