National Audubon Society Releases Top 100 Photos

Photo: Peregrine Falcon and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Christine Saladin/Audubon Photography Awards

This year almost 2,500 photographers from across the United States and Canada submitted nearly 10,000 photographs and videos to Audubon's 13th annual Audubon Photography Awards. Audubon selected the top eight winners earlier this summer and this week released an additional file of 100 photos. The “behind the shot” stories that accompany the photographs demonstrate the wide variety of techniques the photographers use and the lengths they go to for the perfect shot. View the collection here. They are all wonderful, but some of our favorites from our initial review are: #19, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Peregrine Falcon, by Christine Saladin; #41, Black Skimmer, by Marie Read; and #66, Sandhill Crane by William Farnsworth. But it was hard to choose, and on a second round we may end up with 100 favorites.
