This week, I was proud to lead the House of Representatives in taking action to establish the right to abortion access and protect personal privacy and individual freedom. The government has no place inserting itself into personal, private medical decisions — that includes abortion and reproductive care. 

The bills passed today — the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act — will make the protections of Roe v. Wade the law of the land and prevent Republicans from criminalizing, fining, or suing women who travel across state lines to obtain an abortion.

I will continue working every day to establish protections for abortion access.

We cannot leave women’s health and reproductive freedom or personal privacy up to the political whim of state legislatures. I was proud to vote for this legislation to establish protections for abortion access, regardless of where you live, and ensure no one is denied their constitutional right to travel across state lines in order to obtain an abortion. I urge the Senate to immediately take up this legislation.

I will continue working to support our nation’s men and women in uniform.

This week, the House passed the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), legislation that both Republicans and Democrats worked together on to support our men and women in uniform and make investments to strengthen our common defense against the greatest threats facing the United States. 

I was proud to help secure key Granite State priorities in the bill, including taking bold steps to support the service members and their families who form the foundation for our national defense, establishing American energy independence, increasing innovative research funding across fields, and reinforcing our international alliances during a critical moment for democracies worldwide — especially as Putin continues his brutal war in Ukraine.

I was proud to vote for this legislation to keep Americans safe and ensure our continued strength on the world stage.

As founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence, I was especially proud that the final bill included my amendment to direct the Department of Defense to improve the definition of consent to ensure fair, thorough investigations in cases of sexual assault.

The Honoring Our PACT Act will provide care to over 3.5 million toxic-exposed veterans and create a presumption of service connection for 23 respiratory illnesses and cancers.

Our nation’s veterans make tremendous sacrifices to protect our country — it is our responsibility to ensure they have the high-quality care and services they need when they return home.

I was proud to vote for the PACT Act this week to address the impact of toxic exposure on millions of veterans while wearing our nation’s uniform. I will continue fighting for veterans in New Hampshire and across the country to ensure no veteran is left behind.

I will continue working to support New Hampshire farmers and producers as they feed our country and stock our shelves.

Only 7% of New Hampshire’s producers are younger than 35. We must recruit the next generation of farmers to continue the legacy of small family farms in America and grow enough food to feed our nation.

Our farmers and producers are passionate about what they do — but the work is not easy. That’s why Congress must do all we can to ensure that young and beginning farmers have the tools and support they need to succeed. This week in the Agriculture Committee, I urged my colleagues to cut barriers for young, beginning, and underserved farmers.

I will continue working to keep our communities safe.

Mass shootings have plagued communities across our country – we must ensure that our nation’s law enforcement officers have the resources to alert people of ongoing emergencies. That’s why, this week, I voted for the Active Shooter Alert Act, legislation to give NH police departments the ability to send out AMBER Alert-like messages during active shooter emergencies. 

This commonsense policy will give our law enforcement officers the tools they need to keep our communities safer during these life-threatening events.

Even though it is the middle of the summer, this bill is big news for our winter sports and ski mountains!

I’m thrilled that my legislation to steer more New Hampshire dollars back to Granite State ski mountains is heading to the House Floor for final passage in the coming weeks.

As co-chair of the Bipartisan Congressional Ski and Snowboard Caucus, I’m proud to advance the SHRED Act to invest in our local forests and communities to help create more year-round jobs and bolster our regional economies for generations to come.

Disconnecting their phone line from their abuser while keeping their contacts and phone numbers will help survivors across the country rebuild their lives and recover.

Survivors of domestic violence face enough challenges as they escape their abusers and rebuild their lives — they should not have to worry about their abusers weaponizing and controlling their phone plans.

I was proud to help advance my legislation, the Safe Connections Act, through the Energy and Commerce Committee this week alongside Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and Rep Tim Walberg. This bill provides a clear template for survivors to work with their phone carriers to exit from a shared plan and help them quickly cut ties with their abusers.

I will continue working with our Granite State foresters to combat climate change and support working forests.

This week, following my calls for immediate action, President Joe Biden released updated guidance clarifying that doctors are protected by federal law if they terminate a patient’s pregnancy as part of treatment in an emergency circumstance, regardless if there is an abortion ban in their state.

I will continue working to defend reproductive freedom and establish protections for abortion access.

I was proud to help make this program possible and will continue working to strengthen mental health support in our country.

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, July 16, 2022, we’ll have a new nationwide number to call for suicide prevention, mental health and substance use crises: 988. 

Once the program launches, you can call or text to be connected to trained crisis counselors who can help you or someone you know.
