Dear John,
The California Catholic Conference is taking a neutral stance on a bill that would protect women from prosecution after they perform self-induced or dangerous abortions. The Conference has withdrawn its opposition to AB 2223, which would protect women who have abortions under any circumstances. Even if the baby is born alive. The Conference, the staff office of the California Catholic Conference of Bishops, has taken a neutral stance after a recent inconsequential amendment to the bill.
Stand with CitizenGO and tell the California Catholic Conference to reinstate its opposition to AB 2223, because the bill makes abortions even easier in a state that already has perhaps the most liberal pro-choice laws.
This is one of the most extreme abortion bills that we’ve ever seen and it paves the way for legal infanticide. The amended bill simply adds the clause “perinatal death due to causes that occurred in utero” to the list of circumstances wherein the mother would be protected by the state. “This bill would delete the requirement that a coroner hold inquests for deaths related to or following known or suspected self-induced or criminal abortion.” The California Catholic Conference acts as if they prefer avoiding the issue, or at least believe opposing the bill is a lost cause.
The clause they added simply expands the circumstances wherein a mother could seek protection from prosecution after the death of her child. The Conference has done very little, if anything, to have “abortion” removed from the circumstances in which a mother is protected by the state.
This is unacceptable. A Catholic conference’s position on abortion should be none other than zero tolerance. Join us in telling the California Catholic Conference that their position on AB 2223 is scandalous.
According to LifeSite News, Molly Sheahan, the California Catholic Conference Respect Life Director, said the California Conference desires to protect mothers from prosecution if they kill their unborn babies, but that overall the Conference supposedly is not happy with the bill because of its praise for abortion. This is outragous. Killing a live child, born or unborn is wrong. That needs to be stated. Tell the California bishops that their position on AB 2223 is not a strong enough. They can’t oppose abortion by supporting those who commit the act. Mothers ought to be prosecuted for infanticide, because the infant deserves to be protected by the state just as much–if not more–than the mother. They can love the sinner without supporting the sin of abortion, but the Conference doesn’t seem to know that.
Sign our petition and help the California Catholic Conference learn what it means to be pro-life. Thanks for all you do, David Kilby and the entire CitizenGO Team P.S. - It is important that people of faith defend human life at all stages. This bill is one of the most extreme abortion bills we have ever seen. Let’s take a stand right now! After signing, please share with your friends and family.
