For too long, undocumented people have been discouraged from reporting unfair or
unsafe working conditions, out of fear of retaliation or deportation. That is starting to change.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced it will issue letters of
support for undocumented workers seeking temporary immigration protections from
the Department of Homeland Security so that they can report unsafe or
discriminatory working conditions without fear of deportation. Making temporary
protections more accessible to immigrant workers allows them to assert their

All working people, regardless of immigration status, deserve to work in a safe
workplace, with a living wage, and the ability to speak up about labor
violations without fear of retaliation. Immigrants are a central part of our
country’s workforce and protecting their rights is critical to ensuring the
rights of all workers.
