I have the honor of being a Veteran serving Veterans and their families as the Deputy Commissioner of Programs and Services at the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). As such, I lead a team of approximately 100 dedicated professionals, committed to their duty of serving those who have served.
I joined MDVA in January 1999 after working for over four years at another State of Minnesota agency. Prior to my employment with the State of Minnesota, I had served in the U.S. Army, where I spent four years as a Military Policeman. While employed with the State, I joined the U.S. Army Reserve. With its generous military leave policies, the State of Minnesota made it easy to continue serving my country as a citizen soldier. Twice during my first six years at MDVA, I was activated by the Army and deployed to overseas duty, including service in Operation Iraqi Freedom. While deployed, the State paid me military salary differential and helped me to transition right back into my MDVA job as soon as I got home. I left State employment with MDVA after six years to accept a County position. The pay was a bit better, but the benefits and the opportunities for advancement were not, so six years later I came back to MDVA. In total I have 21 years of experience with the State of Minnesota, working in two agencies and in many different roles. I started at MDVA in an entry-level position in the State Benefits Division in 1999 and was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Programs and Services in 2014. I am grateful for the opportunity to utilize the experience, knowledge and skills I?ve gained over the years to serve our Minnesota Veterans and their families.
I hope you will consider joining the MDVA team in one of our existing locations throughout the State. I think you will find it to be a very rewarding place to work; I know I do.
