Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) recently made some extremely disturbing comments about Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs). She stated, "Here in Massachusetts, these so-called crisis pregnancy centers outnumber genuine abortion clinics by 3-to-1... they are giving it over to people who wish them harm. And that has to stop. We need to put a stop to that in Massachusetts right now." She also stated, "We need to shut them down all around the country." Sign the petition urging her to apologize.
Senator Warren,
You recently stated, "Here in Massachusetts, these so-called crisis pregnancy centers outnumber genuine abortion clinics by 3-to-1... they are giving it over to people who wish them harm. And that has to stop. We need to put a stop to that in Massachusetts right now." You also stated that, "We need to shut them down all around the country."
Pregnancy Resource Centers do incredible work to support mothers, fathers, and babies during and after birth. For the past 50 years, they have faithfully served and demonstrated a commitment to women and children's overall wellbeing. Nationwide there are about 2,700 PRCs. They serve almost two million people a year and provide nearly $270 million in services at virtually no charge. PRCs operate largely through the generosity and commitment of volunteers and donors. Many provide medical care, parenting classes, assistance with financial programs, assistance to victims of human trafficking, housing, counseling, and much more.
Your recent comments about PRCs are irresponsible. These remarks would be concerning comments any time, but the recent wave of violence and vandalism against pro-life churches and PRCs make these especially troubling right now. There have been at least 92 acts of violence over the last two months. We urge you to be clear that you oppose violence against those serving some of the most vulnerable in our communities: expecting mothers and their unborn children.
We urge you to apologize for your concerning comments that these PRCs wish people harm and "we need to put a stop to that ... right now." PRCs are doing incredible work to serve their communities. They should be supported in this important effort.
