Dear John,

The U.S. Supreme Court recently ended an eventful Term with a series of significant decisions already having a profound impact on the nation. At this year’s Supreme Court Review, presented in partnership with the National Constitution Center, our experts provided a lively and in-depth look at those decisions, and we’d like to share a quick overview with you.

We are grateful to the eminent legal scholars and analysts who took part — Erwin Chemerinsky, Gregory G. Garre, Amy L. Howe and Frederick M. Lawrence and our moderator Dahlia Lithwick — for their perceptive examination of the Supreme Court’s recent major decisions.

The speakers engaged in a deep analysis of the decisions and dissents of a Term that was dominated by the six-member conservative majority. They dove into what they described as a dramatic embrace of constitutional originalism, a willingness to overturn precedent, a jolt to the legal system caused by the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and an increasing disconnect between the Supreme Court and the American public.

Looking ahead, our expert panel predicted that this conservative Court is likely to move away from previous precedents on affirmative action, voting rights and the conflict between religious freedom and other rights in the next Term.
