John King

As the first Secretary of Education to be kicked out of high school, John always says that public school saved his life. After losing both his parents at a young age, like many kids who experience trauma, John struggled inside and outside the classroom - so much so that he was kicked out of school. But thanks to a few great public educators who invested in him and gave him a second chance, John went on to become an educator himself, and eventually the 10th United States Secretary of Education.

Now he’s running for governor to pay it forward and ensure that all Maryland public institutions function as a transformative force for good for everyone across our state. He has a bold vision to make Maryland a brighter, more equitable place to call home but it’s going to take all of us to help him make that vision a reality. 

Michelle Siri

John’s running mate for Lt. Governor, Michelle Siri, has fought for women’s equality her entire career — as a former Assistant Attorney General of Maryland, Board President of Maryland Planned Parenthood, and Executive Director of the Women’s Law Center of Maryland. Michelle has been a leader in the fight to create a more equitable Maryland and has been crucial in the effort to raise the minimum wage, pass pay equity laws and paid family leave, and ensure a woman's right to abortion care is never infringed upon.

Michelle is a graduate of the University of Maryland Carey School of Law and lives with her husband Michael and two sons in Baltimore County.
