Travel update in Nottingham 15 July - 22 July

📢 Extreme heat warning 📢

Met Office issued red weather warning: Exceptional temperatures are likely on Monday and Tuesday. Take precautions and be prepared for travel disruption.

What to expect:

  • Delays on roads and road closures, along with delays and cancellations to rail and air travel
  • Population-wide adverse health effects experienced
  • High risk of failure of heat-sensitive systems and equipment, potential localised loss of power and essential services, such as water & mobile phone services
  • Significantly more people visiting coastal areas, lakes and rivers

The Met Office advice includes:

  • Take water with you, if you are travelling.

  • Check the latest forecast and warnings – find these on TV, radio, app or website

Rail services🚃

East Midlands Railway: Extreme heat can cause the track to buckle, threating safety to trains to / from London travelling 100-125mph. To keep everyone safe, a lower speed limit will be in place with fewer services running meaning journeys will take significantly longer.

EMR's advice is to only travel if necessary as fewer services will be running on Monday and Tuesday:

  • One Train Per Hour to/from Sheffield (normally two)
  • One Train Per Hour to/from Nottingham (normally two)

You can find out more about how extreme heat affects the railway here.
