Red alert issued with very hot weather forecast in Nottingham

Council House with warning sign

With extremely hot weather forecast for tomorrow, Sunday and particularly Monday and Tuesday, please make sure you protect yourself and others from too much sun or heat. Carry water when travelling and protect those, such as young children or older people, who feel the heat more than others.?Stay indoors if you can but if you?re outdoors ensure you wear sun cream and a hat.

It's also really important to stay out of rivers and lakes, and remember that BBQs and cigarettes can very easily cause house, garden or wildfires during hot and dry weather. Let?s help our emergency services to be there for those who really need it by doing our bit.

To help our frontline works cope with the heat, bin collections across the city will start from 6am on Monday 18 July and Tuesday 19 July, instead of the usual 7am. The earlier start time will reduce employee?s exposure to the forecasted extreme weather conditions. Please ensure you put your bin out before 6am on these days.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Big Spring Clean in Nottingham

Clean champions

Thousands of you turned out to litter pick, we collected tonnes of waste and tidied up grot spots in neighbourhoods, and we had an amazing 1,000 new Clean Champions sign up to help us keep the city clean. It?s wonderful to see so many of you join in to do your bit to keep your community clean.

I?ll be continuing my regular litter pick around Sneinton on the last Saturday of the month ? and I?d like to encourage you all to continue to link in with your neighbours or local Clean Champions too. We?re also doing a short online survey about how you think the Big Spring Clean went to help us plan future activities. Please give your feedback here [ [link removed] ]

Riverside Festival is back!

Riverside

It?s great to see that the Riverside Festival will be back and is bigger than ever. Nottingham Riverside takes place back at Victoria Embankment from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 August, with free live music across three stages, funfair rides and attractions, food and drink, and free children?s art activities and entertainment.

We?ve certainly felt the loss of free family events during the last two years, and we?re really happy to see brilliant free events like Riverside back for this summer. Find out more here [ [link removed] ]

Nottingham?s Green Partnership celebrates 30th anniversary

carbon neutral 2028 logo

Earlier this month, Nottingham?s Green Partnership celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special event hosted by Nottingham Trent University. Made up of organisations, both big and small, the partnership has enabled Nottingham to position the city as one of the best in the world for our sustainability and climate-related action.

Our journey to becoming a carbon neutral city by 2028 requires a whole city effort, so if your workplace would like to find out more about supporting our ambition and join the Green Partnership, get in contact with the Carbon Neutral Policy Team by emailing [email protected].

Pilot project supports Nottingham?s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2028

Nottingham skyline

Nottingham has been chosen as a pilot city for the Government?s Heat Network Zoning Project, which supports our carbon neutral ambition. Working with?Arup, we need to collect information about how heat is used by organisations in Nottingham. ?

Benefits of getting involved in the pilot include:
- Early insight into decarbonising heat for organisations
- Understanding the likely lowest cost route to decarbonising the heat in your buildings

? If your organisation uses or creates heat, is involved in the heat network industry, or is interested in finding out more about the pilot, visit the site: [link removed] [ [link removed] ]
