I’ve known Norman Lear for more than 30 years and few people in my life have demonstrated such an unwavering commitment to improving and strengthening the principles inherent in the American Way.
And now that Norman will soon be turning 100 years old, I can’t help but reflect on his remarkable career that has shaped the minds of millions of Americans through his thought-provoking and engaging television programming. When it comes to advocating for a more inclusive, vibrant, and equitable America, Norman’s dedication is unmatched.

From All in the Family, Maude, The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, and so much more, Norman has forced the nation to confront many social and political realities head on – in a way that is unflinching, raw, and real.
In this pivotal moment for our country, I can’t help but think about the 1972 episode of Maude that courageously brought the issue of abortion into American living rooms, helping families to confront and reckon with a topic that was at that time an open secret and considered taboo in popular culture. Now, with fundamental rights like reproductive freedom under assault and being ripped away from millions, we need that kind of bravery as we fight to preserve dignity and freedom for all.
