A few of our commissioners attended an exciting event for our friends at Macomb County Planning and Economic Development last month! Their team was presented with a $250,000 grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation as part of the foundation’s Planet Awards initiative. The funds will go towards the Green Macomb Urban Forest Partnership with efforts to double our tree local canopy. The Board approved the budget amendment for this grant at the June Full Board Meeting!
Using the grant dollars, MCPED’S Green Macomb Urban Forest Partnership will plant 1,000 trees, 1,500 shrubs and 40 acres of pollinator habitat! Congratulations to MCPED on this big win for our community and environment!
Several Commissioners on our Board attended the Governor’s Macomb County Address in June which included a great discussion regarding our County’s business community! Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bipartisan package of bills at the event to improve childcare making it more dependable, affordable and accessible throughout Michigan.
Commissioners Matuzak, VanSyckel, Xiong and Zinner attended the Wear Orange Day event to honor and pay their respects to victims and survivors of gun violence.
June 3rd now marks National Gun Violence Awareness Day and, further, encourages all citizens to support their communities’ efforts to prevent the tragic effects of gun violence and to honor and value human lives. The Macomb County Board of Commissioners renews our commitment to reduce gun violence and pledge to do all we can to keep firearms out of the wrong hands, and encourage responsible gun ownership to help keep our children safe.
