John, too many of us remember when marriage was legally limited. Hospitals restricted visits to loved ones. Families were defined by obsolete criteria.
Entire institutions turned their back on one of the most universally shared human experiences: love.
Today we are once again seeing the rise of systemic anti-LGBTQ+ legislation—this time targeting our most vulnerable: LGBTQ+ youth.
And this time? The institutions turning against young people are the very ones intended to nurture, educate, and protect. These are the safe spaces and inclusive education environments we’ve fought for years to establish.
Banning books and curriculums. Censoring thought and expression. Removing suicide prevention resources. Structuring practiced transphobia and homophobia.
Florida. Alabama. Texas. Ohio. Louisiana. Dozens more states are drafting legislation that directly targets LGBTQ+ youth.
John, we may eventually see a reversal of civil rights and protections on the federal level. An entire generation could be irrevocably harmed. Future LGBTQ+ leaders and advocates need our help now.

GLSEN supporters have a unique relationship to our mission because, for many of us, the struggles that today’s students are facing echo our own experiences. Please join me in rising up and fighting back on their behalf.
