News From The Week Of December 2 – 6, 2019
Friend:
This week, we set out to do something incredibly ambitious: raise $50,000 to support church-state separation on Giving Tuesday. I know you may have already heard from Lisa, our Director of Individual Giving, but I just wanted to reiterate that I’m so grateful, inspired, and proud that – thanks to all of you who gave so generously – we beat our Giving Tuesday goal! You all ROCK :).
Your support is the key ingredient our movement needs to defend religious freedom in such a challenging time as this, when it is used more often as a sword to harm others than as a shield to protect us all. We truly could not do our work without you.
Also, I wanted to make sure you all didn’t miss that this past Saturday, The Washington Post published my rebuttal to an Op-Ed that had falsely asserted that it is a “myth” that the U.S. Constitution requires the separation of church and state! As you all well know, it’s not a myth, and the Founding Fathers made that clear.

In addition to litigating in court and educating policymakers, AU plays a key role in correcting misinformation and reminding the public about how church-state separation has been at the center of who we are since our founding.

There’s simply no need to erect sectarian symbols at the seat of government when our nation is home to so many churches. Houses of worship are the proper places for crèches and other religious symbols to be displayed – and many of them are happy to take on the task.
