Tuesday's explosive hearing by the January 6 committee revealed the most
complete and damning evidence yet that Donald Trump personally summoned
the armed white supremacist mob to Washington, D.C., and knowingly
directed them to attack the U.S. Capitol.^1
Former members of white supremacist militia groups Oath Keepers and Proud
Boys described how Trump's infamous "Be there, will be wild" tweet on
December 19 initiated planning for the attack, and the committee revealed
evidence that Trump personally helped plan the rally and march to the
Capitol.^2
There's no doubt left. It's case closed. Trump is guilty.
And yet even now, as evidence of Trump's conspiracy to overthrow the 2020
election piles up, he and his MAGA allies are planning yet another coup
attempt right under our noses by installing cronies in the key election
offices that will count votes and certify the winner in 2024.^3

In Tuesday's hearing, we learned about an "unhinged," six-hour-long
meeting in which conspiracy theorists Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and
Michael Flynn got into a screaming match with White House legal staff over
their baseless claims of election fraud and a plan for the military to
seize voting machines in states that Trump lost.^4
We learned that after the meeting, when Trump failed to convince his White
House legal advisers that the election was stolen, he turned his focus
toward organizing a violent insurrection, posting on Twitter, "Big protest
in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!" That tweet immediately
sparked a wave of organizing by the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys that led
to the deadly riot of January 6.^5
Another draft tweet revealed by the committee showed that Trump planned to
urge the crowd to march to the Capitol all along.^6
And to top it off, the committee disclosed yet another instance of
criminal witness tampering, revealing that Trump personally called one of
the witnesses scheduled to testify at a future hearing.^7
All this comes after Cassidy Hutchinson's firsthand witness testimony that
Trump knew the crowd was armed, demanded that metal detectors be removed
so that the mob would be as large as possible, and even supported calls to
"hang Mike Pence."^8
It's simply jaw-dropping, but perhaps the scariest part of all is that
Trump remains the front-runner for the GOP nomination in 2024 and is
actively putting the pieces in place to stage another, more successful
coup.
Trump's efforts in 2020 were stopped only when a handful of honest and
courageous state officials refused to go along with his plan to "find" the
votes needed to overturn the election. That's why Trump is now running a
slate of Big Lie candidates for these key election oversight positions so
that he will have cronies in place to do his bidding next time.
