| Join us in welcoming our two newest Board members: Reanna and Jaime! |
| SFTR is thrilled to welcome Reanna Tong and Jaime Viloria to our Board of Directors! Both of them come with a passion for advocacy, equality, and transit. They also immediately threw themselves in to the role, joining us on Saturday at the grand reopening of the 21 Hayes bus line. We are so grateful and excited to have them on board! |
| Reanna (she/her) was born and raised in San Francisco and grew up taking Muni during the days of tokens being handed out to students for field trips, 35 cent youth fare, and shiny fast passes. Some of her fondest memories are taking the bus to her grandma's house and back home from Chinatown after school. After many different experiences on the city's transit system, Reanna wishes that she had known the paths to advocate for herself, peers, and family as a young person. This has grown to a desire to advocate for people most impacted, yet often excluded from decision-making conversations, and drives her participation with San Francisco Transit Riders. |

| Jaime (he/him) was born and raised in the Philippines, lived in Sacramento, and now has lived in San Francisco for over 12 years. A lifelong transit user, he was lucky enough to have jobs that did not entail commuting on a private car. As a resident of the Tenderloin and Community Organizer for the housing non-profit Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, he works to continue to improve the lives of people in the Tenderloin through policy changes on issues that negatively impact them. Housing, environmental inequities, healthy food access, open-space and recreation, and access to services are examples of issues that can be partly addressed by having a public transit system that serves the transit-dependent people the most, like the people of the Tenderloin. |

| | | Don't miss our next Working Group meeting on the 38 Geary Transit Improvement Project! |
| | The Geary Boulevard Improvement Project, between Stanyan Street and 34th Avenue in the Richmond, would improve Muni’s 38 Geary bus service and address traffic safety. SFMTA has just finished their second round of outreach and will present an updated project proposal to SFTR's Service Planning Working Group on July 27th at 6pm. Join the conversation and give your feedback on this important transit priority project. Working groups are exclusive to SFTR members, so become a member today and start making active change for all riders! |
| | | Join Transit Center on July 27 to discuss the ongoing operator shortage |
| One of the biggest barriers to full service restoration for Muni is a lack of transit operators. Transit Center's forthcoming report, Bus Operators in Crisis, makes the case that to tackle operator shortfalls, the transit industry must dramatically improve the quality of the job. Operators are the backbone of the industry—they deserve better compensation, paths for advancement, and the opportunity to influence their working conditions. Join Transit Center on July 27 for a panel discussion that will dig into the causes of the bus operator shortfall, and detail how this issue grew into a crisis afflicting agencies across the country. |
