The Republican National Committee is spending millions of dollars to intimidate voters and disrupt elections in swing states, including Michigan. They claim they’re looking for “election fraud,” but in reality, they are recruiting volunteers to harass voters and poll workers in an attempt to suppress the Black and brown vote.1
But, in Michigan’s 12th district, Republicans aren’t the only ones interested in lowering voter turnout. One of Rashida’s opponents, Detroit’s City Clerk, significantly reduced the number of ballot drop boxes last year.2
Between now and Election Day on August 2nd, we’re working to inform and turn out voters in Rashida’s new, larger district. We’re also recruiting volunteers for Election Day to combat GOP voter intimidation and make sure that people are allowed to exercise their right to vote.

As we saw during the 2020 presidential election and in its wake―through Donald Trump’s Big Lie, the dozens of voter suppression bills passed in Republican and battleground states, and the criminal conspiracy to sabotage the presidential election―the right-wing will keep trying to disenfranchise Black and brown voters in order to hold onto power. Even when their claims of voting fraud are proven false, over and over.
People came from far away to intimidate voters and vote-counters in Detroit in particular, so we have to be ready to protect our right to vote and make sure all our votes are counted. We have the right to decide who represents us in government, which is fundamental to our democracy. That’s why we’re building out our election protection team now.
