At a political rally in Alaska this weekend, former president Donald Trump attacked Ranked Choice Voting, calling it “crap,” saying that’s the only way Senator Lisa Murkowski could win. The rally was part of his effort to punish Murkowski, one of the few Republican senators who voted to impeach him and is a moderate favored to win under RCV.
It's shocking to no one that Trump who tried (and keeps trying) to overturn an election would disparage RCV, a reform that gives more power to voters, mitigates extremism, and ensures candidates appeal to a majority of voters and not just an extreme base.
And those same forces are actively attacking RCV in our state. There is an effort underway in Bloomington to attempt to repeal RCV in that city, less than one year after the first ranked-choice election! And the Senate Majority in Minnesota attempted to ban RCV altogether.
