Tomorrow, the House of Representatives is set to vote on two bills that will directly help our fight for abortion rights: The Women’s Health Protection Act and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. 

Both of these bills — fought for and introduced by House Democrats — give our representatives the chance to push back against the recent conservative-led Supreme Court ruling to overturn our constitutional right to abortion. We’ve already seen what this ruling has done across the country — over 36 million Americans have been thrown into constitutional, legal, and health care chaos, specifically people of color, who already face the brunt of anti-choice, draconian laws. 

With the health and safety of millions of Americans on the line, there has never been a more crucial time for our representatives to act.

Here’s how both bills will protect our right to abortion and push back against the recent ruling from the Supreme Court. 

The Ensuring Access to Abortion Act codifies the right to travel out of state for abortion care into law, and seeks to help those who do travel for the care. 

The Women’s Health Protection Act protects our right to abortion nationwide through:

• Upholding the right to access abortion throughout the United States;
• Protecting against bans and medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion, including mandatory waiting periods, biased counseling, and two-trip requirements;
• Establishing a statutory right for health care professionals to provide abortion care to their patients.

These two pieces of legislation will be life-saving. By passing this legislation, our representatives will put us back on a path of progress, despite what the Supreme Court has ruled and the schemes of Republican lawmakers. 

Now, more than ever, we need our representatives to fight for our right to abortion.
