Jobs & Economy Update – Fall 2019

Visiting with employees at Bridger Aerospace in Belgrade.

Top Story - Booming economy creates another 266,000 jobs!

The November jobs report is out and boy is it encouraging. Another 266,000 Americans found a job, and our nation’s unemployment rate fell to its lowest point since 1969. Just as good, wages continued to go UP.

The low-tax, reduced regulation policies established since 2017 have been pivotal to our surging economy, and I am glad to support them.

As we approach the Christmas season, knowing many of our family members and neighbors are finding good-paying jobs is something we can all celebrate.

My bill to increase paid family leave

This week I introduced my bipartisan paid leave legislation to help families have the flexibility to stay home with their new child during those most crucial first few months.

While the Family Medical Leave Act guarantees eligible parents unpaid leave, many cannot afford to take the full 12 weeks. This bill helps them do just that.

Under the plan, families would have the option of receiving up to a $5,000 advance on their Child Tax Credit to help cover lost wages or any other expense related to the birth or adoption of a new child.

Tax Cuts and Jobs Act – Did you Know?

A new report this week from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development indicated that the United States has the third lowest tax burden among member countries.

The Wall Street Journal noted that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was a major reason the tax burden on American families and job creators has fallen.

More than just a stat, the tax relief from the 2017 law has empowered families from every part of our country to keep more of what they earned and has jumpstarted our economy.
