Readings of the Day

Nos autem in persona Iesu Christi. (Latin)
Estamos en la persona de Jesucristo. (Spanish)
EWaxaan ku jirnaa shaqsigii ciise masiix. (Somali)
Peb nyob hauv tus neeg ntawm Yexus Khetos. (Hmong)
We are in the person of Jesus Christ. (English)

No matter what language we speak, today’s readings remind us that our professional “work” at our local Catholic Charities – and the “work” of our personal life, as well – calls us to be present in the person of Jesus Christ for others, especially those who come to us with needs.

And, lest we feel lost in the seas of life, confused by all of the needs, Jesus has committed to being our guide…if our eyes and ears are open. [No longer will your Teacher hide himself, but with your own eyes you shall see your Teacher, While from behind, a voice shall sound in your ears: “This is the way; walk in it…” (IS 30:20-21)]

We, like the Twelve disciples, have been assigned with the same tasks we read of in Matthew’s gospel today…cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and drive out demons.

“Go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” [MT 10:6] We are in the person of Jesus Christ.
