john, there is no other district in the country that includes more of the U.S.-Mexico border than TX-23.
Our district is the epicenter of our nation’s outdated asylum laws and our broken legal immigration system. Our community sees by far the most encounters between migrants and law enforcement of any other district.
So when I heard that more than 50 migrants had lost their lives just outside of San Antonio, I knew that without active immigration reform, it would only be a matter of time before the next devastating tragedy.
john, this is exactly why I am running for Congress. Lives are on the line and we must enact bipartisan, humane immigration reforms that will protect the lives of immigrants AND our communities. If you agree, will you chip in to help fund my campaign?

I firmly believe that the United States must remain the land of opportunity for all, including immigrants, who add tremendous value to our nation. Migrants can play a vital part in the revival of our economy, especially on the hundreds of ranches, farms and factories in West Texas.
But I believe just as firmly that to represent the people of Texas, I must be willing to engage with all points of view.
That’s why I have been traveling extensively to border communities and talking with people who are concerned about immigration in their communities. I share their concerns about our overburdened system and the need to allocate federal and local resources equitably.
The narrative that pits border residents against migrant workers creates a false choice. America is the land of abundance, and there is enough economic opportunity for everyone.
There’s a future where we protect our border communities and treat immigrants with dignity and respect. Together, we can work towards that future and prevent senseless deaths like those in San Antonio.
Can you make a donation to help me get to Washington and fight for bold, meaningful, bipartisan border legislation that treats immigrants and border communities with respect?
In gratitude and solidarity,
John Lira
