Deb and I met 38 years ago, and right away, I could tell that she had incredible strength, determination, and spirit. I knew that whatever she did with her life, Deb would be a force for positive change. Since then, Deb has given everything she has in service to our country as an Army captain and intelligence officer - and in service to our family as the most dedicated wife and mother. I know she’ll take those same qualities to Congress to deliver for our communities and help create the future our children and grandchildren deserve.
1. While Republicans like Derrick Van Orden attack our most fundamental rights, Deb is ready to lead the fight to secure them. Deb and I both understand that the choice to become a parent is both personal and life-changing, Deb will work to restore the right to legal, accessible reproductive care in Congress. Her opponent would aid the GOP’s attempts to ban abortion nationwide. She’ll also stand up for LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites, like our son, who are under attack from the far right.
2. Deb’s career in the U.S. Army and the CIA took her around the globe, and she saw what happens when democracy is threatened elsewhere. She knows that America’s democracy is now under threat from within, and her commitment to defending it is ironclad. Unlike her opponent, Deb knows the will of the people is sacred and elections must be respected. She will hold those who seek to undermine our democratic process accountable for their actions.
3. Deb has proved again and again that she will honor her oath to protect and defend the Constitution at every turn. She goes the extra mile - like taking on Airborne training, and earning her Master’s degree from the U.S. Army War College - because our country deserves nothing less. When we were attacked on 9/11, Deb joined the CIA because she knew she had to step up again. Meanwhile, her opponent, Derrick Van Orden, dishonored his military oath by participating in the January 6th insurrection.
4. Deb is ready to “jump in,” no matter the challenge. Running for Congress isn’t easy, but Deb believes that Wisconsinites deserve the best possible representation in Washington. Our communities, small businesses, family farms, and working families are worth it. She even turned back the clock to her Army Airborne training and recently jumped out of a plane to prove her readiness and commitment to serve WI-03.
5. The GOP would need to flip just 5 blue districts - like ours - to retake control of the House and imperil any progress our Democratic majorities could make. The path to holding the Democratic majority must include WI-03. If we want to continue making progress on the issues that matter most, we must ensure Democrats succeed in November.
