Dear MoveOn member,
As of today, there have been 335 mass shootings in the United States this year.1 That's an average of two mass shootings every single day. And in that time, 3,208 children have been injured or killed by gun violence.2
When will it end?
When will we stop waking up to stories of 2-year-olds who went to Fourth of July parades and left as orphans?3
When will 11-year-olds no longer be forced to cover themselves in the blood of their friends to try to hide from a shooter in their classroom?4
When will our elected officials stop allowing concertgoers, movie watchers, grocery shoppers, church parishioners, people of color, and school children to face the brunt of their inaction on gun violence?
We need to spread the message that we will no longer stand for our elected officials behaving as if guns deserve more rights than people—and that we will vote out those who refuse to take action this November.
John, gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children and adolescents in the United States.5 Take that in.
And yet, Republican politicians want to make it easier for anyone to get any gun they please by eliminating background checks, allowing permitless carry, ending gun-free zones and more.6
The most terrifying part: If Republicans win big in this fall's midterm elections, as many predict they will, they will be able implement those plans.7 They will cheer as they allow our communities to become warzones.
We cannot, and will not, let that happen. Together, we can come together, organize, volunteer, raise our voices, and vote for and elect politicians who are ready to take on the gun lobby and fight for our kids.
Together we can win this fight.
