Yesterday, the Senate confirmed it's 170th judge nominated by President Trump, which includes Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
This week, I'm proud we were able to confirm Richard Myers to the Eastern District of North Carolina, filling the longest Judicial vacancy in the country. His extensive experience is the reason President Trump nominated him to fill the vacancy and I have no doubt he will serve the people of Eastern North Carolina well.
I recently spoke on the Senate floor calling on House Democrats to pass the USMCA, which President Trump signed a year ago. This trade deal would benefit thousands of North Carolinians and Americans across the country and we need it passed now. Watch my speech here.
I also participated in a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing and continued to push for improvements to military housing.
I led bipartisan efforts to include provisions for military housing in this year's military funding package, and I will continue to push for passage of this legislation to provide the resources our men and women in uniform need and deserve.
This week, the Senate passed a bipartisan amendment I co-sponsored to make permanent $255 million in annual funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions. Both play an important role in developing a strong, diverse workforce in North Carolina and across the country, and I'm proud we were able to come together on a bipartisan basis.
The Social Security Administration recently announced the launch of a dedicated online form to receive reports from the public of Social Security-related scams. They are encouraging the public to use the new online form to report Social Security phone scams including robocalls and live callers, as well as email, text, and in-person scams. Find the new form here.
Thank you for reading my e-newsletter, I will continue to work hard to represent all North Carolinians in the Senate and deliver results. If you or someone you know is having trouble with the VA or any federal agency, please don't hesitate to contact my office.
