Shining a spotlight on our Ambassadors of Service.

Dear New Yorkers,

From comprehensive property tax reform to New York City’s Green New Deal, we spend a lot of time talking about the big issues facing New Yorkers and our city at-large. But today I want to focus on some of the unsung heroes of city government–meet the Comptroller’s Office Ambassadors of Service.

This group is the backbone and central nervous system of our Constituent Services Unit–when someone calls with a problem on their block, they are the ones doing everything they can to connect constituents with the services they need.

So let me take a moment to shine a spotlight on some of the hardest working people in New York.

Meet Antirson Ortiz, our Community Action Center Director:

Antirson Ortiz is an Afro-Latino, born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the South Bronx. A life-long grassroots organizer, Antirson started his career as a Youth Counselor in the South Bronx and West Harlem, positions which he used to lead school-based initiatives assisting and empowering youth, connecting them and their families to community resources and helping organize against displacement.

Meet Brenda Badillo, Ambassador of Service:

Brenda Badillo is a strategic case worker with a wide range of skills in the arenas of nonprofits, government, politics, and case management. With a background as a Community Health Worker, she has 10+ years of leadership experience for at-risk populations providing health education, information and advocacy.

Meet Ebony Boyd, Ambassador of Service:

Ebony Boyd is a seasoned government, community and executive affairs professional that joined the Comptroller’s office in 2006, under the administration of the first African American Comptroller, William C. Thompson. Boyd has served in many operational roles, working on thousands of community inquiries, commendations for community organizations, and is most proud of her work helping New Yorkers navigate city services.

Meet Ava Chaplin, Ambassador of Service:

Ava Chaplin started as a Clerical worker in the Comptroller’s Executive office managing the appointments, filing and planning meetings for the Comptroller’s Special Assistants. Chaplin trained with NeighborWorks America and became a Certified Foreclosures Counselor in 2007 through 2011 before relocating to the Community Action Center, where she continues to advocate for constituents with a focus on housing, human resources, claims and pension inquiries, health benefits and much more.

Meet Sharon Forbes, Ambassador of Service:

Sharon Forbes has a passion for helping others Advocating for constituents who contact the Comptroller’s office for assistance, Forbes assists on various services and quality of life matters, while building relationships stemming from bureaucracies within city agencies.

Meet Linda T. Mauro, Ambassador of Service:

Linda T. Mauro truly believes that public service is among the most noble of career choices. She started her City employment as a clerical aide in the Press Office of Kings County District Attorney Elizabeth Holtzman. She currently serves as an Administrative Manager. Fun Fact: When Linda began her first City job, “cut and paste” literally meant “cut and paste” with Elmer’s glue and a pair of scissors in hand.

Meet Julio H. Perez, Ambassador of Service:

Julio H. Perez is a bilingual community service professional with over 14 years of public service. He’s developed contacts throughout the City and State (and some Federal) agencies in order to respond to local concerns and time sensitive demands, while leading special projects to improve inter-government collaboration and ensure successful and consistent public services.

Meet Ayanna Williams, Ambassador of Service:

With a passion for helping others, Ayanna Williams serves New Yorkers by assisting with a wide range of issues including, but not limited to shelters, housing, human services, claim and pension inquiries, health benefits as well as addressing problems with City agencies.

Williams enjoys making a difference each day one person at a time and is known in the office as “the Walking Encyclopedia” because of her extensive memory.

These incredible New Yorkers are the true embodiment of what it means to be a public servant. And they are happy to hear from you.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with an issue, whether it’s quality of life concerns, NYC pension inquiries, ideas to improve government, to suggest audits, file a claim, NYCHA repairs, or tenant harassment they are here to help.
