John – we’ve been seeing a pattern in southern states. First a court declares that a Republican-drawn map is gerrymandered and should not be used. Then a higher court – in two cases the Trump Supreme Court – orders the map reinstated.
In all of these cases, the gerrymandered maps disproportionately weaken the political power of Black communities. In fact, earlier this year The New York Times reported that "Map by Map, GOP Chips Away at Black Democrats' Power." Combined with conservatives' gutting of the Voting Rights Act over the last decade, it's extremely alarming.
But we won't give up. We've always known that fair redistricting is a civil rights issue. And that fact only makes it more important to secure fair maps. Will you help us do it?
