A NOTE FROM THE BLMGNF EXECUTIVE BOARD
|
John,
Today is the 9-year anniversary of the movement – and it's been quite a journey! On this anniversary, we're embracing our values of healing, truth-telling, and celebrating Black Joy!
Over the past few years, people have worked together to build a global community working towards Black liberation and freedom -- and still, our movement has more work to do to reach the goal of abolition. We are committed to realizing this dream of a society where we divest from police and invest in community. It is our duty and responsibility to carry on the work of our ancestors.
We are clear that it is the people who have the power, and it will take all of us to realize this dream. We honor the lives of Black youth, families, queer and transgender communities, the disabled, the undocumented, those impacted by the carceral system, women, men, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum.
There is a place for all of us in this movement. Thank you for believing in BLMGNF's even when times are difficult we continue to fight.
In love and solidarity,
Shalomyah Bowers

Today, the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, opening the door to statewide bans and subsequent rulings that will harm Black people disproportionately. This decision is one of several this week designed to limit freedom in service of a white supremacist and patriarchal agenda. As a Black liberation movement organization, the fall of Roe will open the door to further criminalization of Black people. As we continue our fight for freedom, we recognize that full access to abortion care is necessary for all Black people.

“Protecting Black women, trans, and gender-non-conforming people is central to the work of reproductive justice. Self-determination is a key pillar of Black power.

Washington, DC — Today, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation responded to the Biden administration’s announcement of action plans to advance equity and racial justice across the federal government:
|
“We need the next phase of the action plan to explicitly address how federal agencies will update their policies to hold officers and departments at the local, state, and federal level accountable for the way they engage with Black people.”
|
We are embracing this moment as an opportunity to move into this next chapter with the lessons learned, achievements underscored, and a renewed commitment to accountability and power-building in service to our community.
BLMGNF is in the midst of a powerful transition down a path never charted before. We understand our responsibility to forge a path that sustains Black life for generations.
We will continue to unveil new initiatives as we continue to disrupt what philanthropy looks like in service of the Black diaspora. BLMGNF continues to increase operations and tightening compliance and continue to steer the organization through its next stage.
Together, we’re forging a path that sustains Black life for generations. We are in the midst of a powerful transition, and we believe this is a remarkable step in the right direction.
