This action is significant and will help the 58% of U.S. women that live in states hostile to abortion rights and millions more who seek reproductive healthcare. Let’s dive deeper into what Biden’s executive order does!
First: It will require hospitals to provide abortion care if the person’s life is at risk, regardless of state law.
Second: It will defend access to FDA-approved drugs used to aid abortion, which is important because over half of all abortions in the U.S. are medication-induced abortions.
Third: It will take steps to protect a patient’s private information, search histories, and phone applications and help states and medical providers that create opportunities for abortion care for out-of-state patients.
Fourth: It will direct the federal government and its agencies to protect access to contraception, including Plan B and IUDs.
This is an undeniable step forward. We will continue to fight for the codification of Roe v. Wade and reverse state abortion bans.
