This week, the House and Senate are back in session as the consumer price index increased to 9.1% compared to one year ago. This is a direct result of President Biden's spending spree that we have seen since his Administration began, as well as his attack on American energy production.

This comes as many businesses also face hiring issues. I'm working on legislation that will strengthen our workforce. I cosponsored two pieces of legislation that would create work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents who also receive welfare. The America Works Act of 2022 would reinstate a 20-hour work requirement for such individuals before they can receive SNAP benefits, while the Jobs and Opportunities for Medicaid Act would instate the same work requirements for the same individuals before they are eligible for Medicaid. The legislation would only require those capable of working to complete the requirements. We must not continue to pay our workforce to stay at home while American businesses suffer from a lack of workers. 

Right to Life

Today, I met with former Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave and Daniel West with Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America to discuss the future of the pro-life movement following the monumental Dobbs v. Jackson decision. I’m proud to work with SBA to create a brighter future that values the lives of our children both before and after they are born.

In addition to my previous work to protect life, I recently led an effort to push for a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) briefing on threats from leftwing extremist organizations towards pregnancy resource centers and churches, such as the threats and destructive acts from pro-abortion activists following the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The Biden Administration and the media have remained much too silent on these threats, which is completely unacceptable. These actions must be investigated.

In addition, I've cosponsored legislation to condemn these acts and asked that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Attorney General's office, and DHS classify Jane's Revenge as a domestic terrorist organization. This classification would allow law enforcement organizations to use additional resources to investigate Jane's Revenge and take preventative measures to stop any plans supporters might have for additional attacks on the pro-life community.

Border Security

I'm proud to announce that I introduced the Border Enforcement Security Task Force Act (BEST Act). This legislation would reauthorize the Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST) and help stop the flow of illicit narcotics into the United States by thwarting the criminal activity of transnational criminal organizations (TCO). The BEST Act would enhance state and local law enforcement participation by supporting state and local municipalities that join BEST task forces. Furthermore, this effort would require both the Coast Guard Investigative Service and Coast Guard Intelligence to participate in every maritime BEST, furthering collaboration and combating maritime smuggling.

Due to the Biden Administration’s reckless open border policies, illegal narcotics are flowing across our nation’s borders daily, fueling America’s drug crisis and impacting communities and families in Mississippi. Our country is suffering from the largest drug trafficking and drug overdose epidemics in the history of the United States. Thankfully, there is a federal task force dedicated to combatting the flow of illicit narcotics. I’m proud to lead the effort in taking steps towards protecting Americans and shutting down these illicit pathways.
