We are still seeking service providers to be on-site during lunch meal services to engage individuals that may be interested in additional services.

If your agency is interested in volunteering at either First United Methodist Church or Shiloh Baptist Church during lunch meal services on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or both, from 11 am-2 pm, please reach out to Ryan at: [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness (ACEH) works with allies in the community to design, create, and lead the implementation of the Anchorage community plan on homelessness. More about ACEH ([link removed])
There are currently over 250 unsheltered individuals in Anchorage.

AHD is in the process of completing the public input on the Annual Action Plan on homelessness.

** Abused Women's Aid In Crisis, Inc. (AWAIC)
------------------------------------------------------------

In Her Shoes Training - Economic Justice Edition

This version of In Her Shoes, will increase awareness of the additional struggles survivors of domestic violence face when they are facing low income and poverty. The perspective of the abusive partner is also represented in the Economic Justice Edition. Most useful for longer training sessions where there are opportunities for group discussion afterward.

AWAIC's prevention department also does presentations including, but not limited to, Teen Dating Violence Prevention, Healthy Relationships, Communication Skills for Talking with Teens, ACES, Young Men’s Group, Domestic Violence 101, Domestic Violence Policy for Business Managers, How to Recognize, Respond, and Refer if a Colleague, Employee or Client Discloses Abuse.

A 2.5-hour commitment of participation is required, which includes the opening, the interactive session, and time for discussion afterward.

Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission says new addition will allow them to serve 20,000 meals a month

Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission broke ground Wednesday on a kitchen expansion, primarily utilized to serve meals to homeless Anchorage residents.

Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission Executive Director and Pastor John LaMantia said that the upgrades are a much-needed addition to their kitchen and dining area. The $3.8 million project will add over 4,000 square feet of space when it’s completed early next summer, according to LaMantia.

LaMantia said space has been an issue for years. The shelter is capped at 100 guests a night, but serves meals to many more in the community who are forced to eat in shifts in the tiny dining room.

“Out of this small dining and kitchen area we have served from between 7,500-9,000 meals a month,” he said. “There have been months we’ve gone over the 10,000 mark.” Continue reading... ([link removed])

HoUSed Campaign for Universal, Stable, Affordable Housing - Representative Ritchie Torres Introduces “Stable Families Act” to Create Permanent ERA Program

Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) introduced on July 7 the “Stable Families Act,” a companion bill to the Senate’s bipartisan “Eviction Crisis Act.” If enacted, the “Stable Families Act” would establish a new, national Emergency Assistance Fund (EAF) – funded at $3 billion annually – to help stabilize households with extremely low incomes experiencing an economic shock before it leads to eviction, housing instability, and in worst cases, homelessness.

New Op-Ed: Congress Must Ease Inflation by Making Housing More Affordable

The Hill published an op-ed ([link removed]) by NLIHC President and CEO Diane Yentel urging President Biden and Congress to protect targeted and critical housing investments in any final reconciliation bill. In restarting negotiations on a major spending package, Congress and the Biden administration have a crucial opportunity to tackle inflation and ensure that America’s lowest-income and most marginalized people can get and stay stably housed.
