It's the last day of our three-part history series, and today is a big one, team.
On this day, it was declared, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude...shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
It's our Independence Day -- the anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment. America's racist history has deep roots, but I believe in the power of our democracy. If we the people continue to advocate for ourselves, fight for representation, and demand equity, we will persevere.
But this movement is going to take more than words; in a time like this with a racist in the White House, we need action more than ever before. Will you take part? Chip in $13 to our work today to help us keep moving forward.
At The Collective, we're building Black political power by training, supporting, and advocating for the next generation of Black civic leaders at every level of government.
In 1865, our ancestors won independence and freedom. Less than a hundred years later, freedom fighters mobilized a grassroots movement capable of taking on a racist institution. And in 2020, we will ramp up a grassroots team capable of defeating a corrupt and racist president, winning back the Senate, and electing the most talented and diverse wave of Black leaders in American history.
But I need you to step up to the plate. Will you contribute $13 or whatever you can today toward our work to elect the next Black leaders of tomorrow?
Thank you for stepping up,
Quentin James
